With love, Jersey City
Celebrating ten years of meeting my husband in Jersey City and sharing our favorite spots.
Ten years ago on a cool September evening, my husband and I had our first date at in Jersey City. What started as a meeting over tea ended up turning into dinner and an evening stroll. To celebrate our time together, we decided to pay homage to the city where we’ve created our life, built a home and started our family in.
We wanted to share a few of our favorite spots in Jersey City that help make it home. Frequent pizza dates, chaat nights and summer sailing are just some of the things we love doing here in Jersey City. I love that we continue to explore new things about our neighborhood even after living here for a decade.
On our second date my husband and I walked by this exact spot and he asked me if I would ever raise a family in Jersey City. I looked at him like he was crazy and told him I wasn’t a city girl. Who knew a few years later we would build a house in this exact location?! He proved me wrong and now here we are, raising our family, here’s to home.
There’s a blissful feeling about being near the water and listening to the waves crash. Our first apartment together was in Exchange Place and we spent many evenings walking along the water discussing life and what the future holds. In many ways the waterfront is reflective of where we both come from Mumbai & Florida, both surrounded by the sea.
Tell me what is more beautiful: How the moon lets the sun shine throughout the day or the way the sun lets the moon glimmer at night.
When I saw this wall mural I just knew I wanted to incorporate it into our shoot. You see, my husbands name means sun and my name means when night falls. Similarly, that’s what we are, complete opposites that compliment each other.
The best part about documenting our favorites in this photo series was reliving all our memories and “firsts”. There have been ups and downs in this ten years but we’ve built some beautiful memories along the way.
I hope you enjoyed this walk down memory lane as much as I did! A big thank you to Laney Chelland for helping us capture these moments!
