How to involve kids in Diwali ki Safai
When I shared a Diwali ki Safai checklist many of you wrote in to say how it was helping you organize your cleaning for Diwali season and was making your lives stress free (yay!). Today I want to share a few tips on how to get kids involved in Diwali ki safai and preparation. It’s easy for kids to get excited for the food, fireworks and presents, but to excite them about cleaning is a whole other ballgame. Here are some ways you can get your little ones involved and excited to clean for Diwali.

You give and you get
Our house motto is “the more you give the more you get”. We try and instill this in our daughter and remind her that she’s a very lucky little girl. This year she’s excited to take out toys she’s grown out of for kids that need them.

Lead by example
Kids learn best when they see the lessons being done in front of them. Show them the act of charity and kindness through your actions.

Make a checklist
For your visual learners make a checklist of age appropriate tasks that need to get done before Diwali. Create your own reward system and check off every time a task has been completed.

Do it together
Focusing on the garage or a junk drawer? Get the kids involved with sorting. Make it fun with timed games and the race to finish.

Make it enjoyable
Don’t forget to have fun while making Diwali memories, have a Diwali cleaning dance party or a family competition to see who can get their tasks done first. Winner gets a prize!

I try and remind my little one that Diwali is about a clean heart and a clean space. You are making room for prayer and for that you need to remove the clutter.

  1. Hi Nisha,
I was wondering if you could make a checklist for me. My name is also Nisha and I am 10. I like to bake, so I will make some of the mithai for Diwali. I will leave my mom’s email address.
    Thanks!
