Mango Milk

Mango Milk, made using sweet mango purée, cardamom powder, your favorite milk and heaps of ice cubes. This easy to make treat is a favorite at home.

Mango Milk

To me, mangos are the ultimate fruit. When my daughter was a baby she would turn up her nose at mango and I was heartbroken that she may not have the same love for mango as did I. Luckily, a few years later my parents reintroduced mango to her (thank god for grandparents) and she developed a taste for the magical fruit. At this point she loves mangoes so much that she counts down until mango season and when she’ll get to pluck fresh mangoes off my parents trees.

Mango Milk

I’ve been making this creamy treat for as long as I can remember. When fresh sweet mangoes are not in season I use canned pulp, Kesari or Alfonso. It works just as well and we get a taste of sunshine anytime of year.

While many people lean towards mango lassis and milkshakes, in our home we prefer this mango milk as it’s lighter and allows the mango flavor to shine. You can use the milk of your choice, we use whole. If you’re dairy free you can use oat milk or almond milk! I would not suggest using coconut milk as it’s stronger in taste and can compete with the fragrant mango flavor. For a light cardamom flavor you want to add powder rather than the seeds so that the bits don’t get in the way of the smooth and creamy treat.

For a little extra indulgence, add a scoop of ice cream or cardamom whipped cream and enjoy the ultimate dessert.

How to make Mango Milk

Mango: You can use fresh, frozen, or canned mango pulp in this recipe. If using fresh, look for very ripe mangoes.

Milk:  Whole milk works best however you can also use low-fat or 2% milk. If you’re vegan you can use almond or oat milk.

Sweetener: If your fresh mangoes are very sweet you can skip this step, if you’re using pulp or frozen cubes I would suggest using sugar or agave syrup.

Spices: A pinch of ground cardamom lends a beautiful flavor to this drink.

To make: Add mango pulp, milk, sugar, a few ice cubes and cardamom into a blender and blend until smooth. I used my Vitamix but you can use any blender or food processor. In your glasses add some mango purée, top it with mango milk and enjoy!
