Limonana | Frozen Mint Lemonade: Middle Eastern Frozen Mint Lemonade
I’m quite sure that wherever you go in the world, you’ll find some form of a summer lemon drink. Today we’re traveling to the Mediterranean for Limonana, a Frozen Mint Lemonade that’s refreshing and cooling, perfect for a hot summers day.
What is Limonana
Limonana is a combination of the Arabic words “limon” meaning lemon”nana” meaning mint. This Middle Eastern Frozen Mint Lemonade is super refreshing. You get a tang from the fresh lemon juice, a sweet, floral freshness from the mint, and I love the slushy texture of blending it with the ice. It’s simply perfect for a hot day!
Limonana starts off as most lemonades do with fresh lemon juice, sugar and water, and is instantly transformed into something magical with the addition of ice, lemon peel, and mint.

A bit of mint can make almost anything right. Mint is one of the oldest culinary herbs known to mankind, it’s no wonder that many of us have our own little mint plant in our kitchen gardens. Its medicinal properties have made it one of the most commonly known and used herbs.

Change it up
- If you don’t have lemons, try using limes instead, I’m sure this recipe would be just as delicious.
- If you want to make this a cocktail, add a splash or two of vodka.
- You can use honey or agave as the sweetener if you’d like, however it will change the flavor slightly.
- ½ cup fresh lemon juice (from 2-3 fresh lemons)
- 1 lemon, seeds removed, cut into wedges
- 2½ cup ice cubes
- 2 cup cold water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup packed mint leaves; 35-40 mint leaves
- Mix and dissolve sugar in cold water.
- To a blender add cold sugar water, fresh lemon juice, lemon wedges, ice and mint leaves.
- Blend until you get a slushy type consistency.
- Enjoy cold.
