Hinduism for Kids: Movies & Shows to Watch. Movies and shows, we can use them to our advantage as parents to help us introduce stories and lessons to our little ones!

In my first Hinduism for Kids series we shared how we have incorporated religion at home with daily practices and ways you can encourage your little ones curiosity when it comes to your faith. Today we’re talking about leveraging some of those tools and using them as learning resources. 

HINDUISM FOR KIDS: MOVIES & SHOWS TO WATCH

While there are numerous cultural shows and movies, I’m sharing our favorite movies and tv shows that will get your little ones excited about Hinduism. Read along to see some of our favorite picks that introduce Hinduism to kids with their fun stories and songs. I’ll continue adding to this list as we discover more. Included is suggested ages and the platforms where you can find these movies and shows! 

MIGHTY LITTLE BHEEM

No voices, just music in these sweet little six minute episodes. The themes range from celebrating Holi & Diwali to everyday childhood, masti and the relationship between mother and child.

MOCOMI KIDS

I can’t gush enough about Mocomi Kids and their moral based stories. You can listen to them in a variety of languages and they have learning resources for children of all ages.

An adorable retelling of the Ramayana in an animated one hour poetic stage show. It’s adorable and includes catchy tunes that you may find yourself humming throughout the day.

KRISHNA AUR KANS

The story of Krishna’s birth and childhood and how he defeated his evil uncle Kans. The songs in this show are mesmerizing and the voiceovers of Juhi Chawla and Om Puri and simply perfect. We watch this again and again.

Childhood tales about the adorable Lord Ganesha. Morals and lessons are weaved within the animated song and story episodes.

This animated series is about Lord Krishna and his elder brother, Balram. Each episode is a story within itself so you can start from whichever episode you like!

MAHABHARATA MINIS

Small tales from the Mahabharata told while an artist draws out the scenes. It’s a great way to learn small mini lessons from events that occurred in the Mahabharata.

This 56 episode series is a retelling of the Ramayan and geared towards older kids and adults. My little one watched the entire series with me but we paused for explanations. This is only streaming until 8/1/2020 so if you’re interested watch it soon!

Author Devdutt Pattanaik explores legends, folklore, fables and parables, and for challenging what he perceives as willful misinterpretations of ancient Indian scriptures in this series. Each episode focuses on a different topic.
