Getting Back to School Ready With Walmart: 5 Tips to Shop With Ease

We are almost there, a new school year is on the horizon. Raise your hand if back to school shopping makes you giddy. As a kid, I used to get so excited about the start of a new school year because it always meant new crayons, smooth, unsharpened pencils, and a brand new trapper keeper. Fast forward 30+ years… I’m still as excited for my little one! This year we are getting back to school ready with Walmart and sharing five tips to shop with ease.

  1. Print out a list when shopping, if you try to go off memory you’ll likely forget an item or two. This will help you figure out what you already have a home (in case you bought multi packs the year before). It‘s helpful to stick with lists to stick with the your budget so you don’t overspend during back to school shopping season. Also remember to include lunchtime and snack supplies on your list.
  1. Invest in reusable containers for lunch time. Don’t be suckered into buying lesser quality lunch supplies this year to save a few bucks. The reality is that sometimes you won’t be saving money if, during the rest of the school year, you have to go buy the same lunch supplies you bought at the beginning of the school year. Spend your money on items that are good quality, eco friendly and will last your child through the school year. We found some wonderful insulated options at Walmart that will regulate the food temperature while being eco friendly and dishwasher safe.

  1. Make it a one stop shop. Summer already feels short as it is, save your time for family and shop at one place for back to school supplies. Walmart carries everything from school supplies, lunch box essentials, uniform basics to the latest school accessories.
  1. Shop for what you need, not what you feel pressured to buy. Back to school season would have you believe that your kid needs a complete wardrobe makeover each and every September. It’s as if your child has suddenly outgrown all of his/her clothes and you need to rush to the store in order to replace everything in their closet. The best way to avoid overspending on clothes, shoes, and accessories is to take an inventory first, then shop to fill in the gaps. Have your child try on any questionable items so you know without a doubt that the clothes in their closets and dressers actually fit them.
