The ritual of tea is an integral part of Indian culture. Tea time varies from quick morning chai, to a welcome drink for guests to a post dinner palate cleanser. One of my favorite times to enjoy tea is during Afternoon Tea. Although a slight departure from the regular “chai nashta” which is traditionally filled with heavy snacks and masala chai, I throughly enjoy hosting an afternoon filled with a variety of teas, a mix of traditional and modern snacks and sweets.

Tea India recently released a new line of individuality wrapped teas that give the perfect dose of flavor and comfort in every cup. By picking only the two top leaves and the bud when the tea is the freshest, their blenders have created premium teas with authentic flavor profiles. Their new select line includes two flavors, Assam black and green tea. The black tea can be served as is or works beautifully in a cardamom chai. These individually wrapped teas were perfect to serve at my afternoon tea as guests had the option to choose between flavors and each cup was as fresh as the first.

For the invite I chose a garden theme as I would be hosting my afternoon tea alfresco. I worked with my friend Anita from AJB Events to create a table scape full of florals and mixed metals. Mix and matched tea pots and tea cups were set for a casual and relaxed feel. We used picnic tables doubled up on both sides to fit all the menu items and my local party rental store, Resnick’s Rentals lent me gold chiavari chairs to complete the look.

Nothing was overdone or over planned, leaving the afternoon tea party warm and inviting. Of course if you’re hosting this for a bridal or baby shower you could add to the glam by a more formal setting or changing the florals to pastels.
