Diwali Books By Age

Even before Little Mirchi was born I started collecting South Asian Inspired books on culture, celebrations and festivals. In fact, I even wrote a post on my running list of books that I planned to  purchase for our home library.

Saving you the legwork, KitaabWorld does all the searching and curating for you, bringing you a one stop shop with a large selections of South Asian books varying from age, subject and festivals. We asked the founders Gauri & Sadaf to tell us about the inspiration behind KitaabWorld and give us their picks of Diwali books by age.

What was your inspiration for KitaabWorld?

Gauri was concerned about the lack of adequate South Asian influence in her children’s life, and yet found it hard to find resources that would help. She shared her concerns with other moms, and noticed that many felt the same way. She bounced ideas off with her longtime friend Sadaf, and felt that there should be a way for parents to easily find resources to connect with and teach their kids about South Asian culture. Many brainstorming and chai sessions later, they realised that this would also be of value to teachers, authors, publishers and librarians.

As they worked on KitaabWorld, we discovered a whole new world of fun and engaging South Asian books, global authors and wonderful stories, only they weren’t easily accessible in the US. They strived to solve that problem by creating KitaabWorld, a one-stop shop for South Asian children’s books, toys and games. They curate, you choose!

KitaabWorld is a passion project that grew out of our desire to expose our children to fun and engaging books and toys related to South Asia. Our aim is to open up a window to stories – some old, some new but definitely ones that expand one’s worldview. We hope that all children catch a glimpse of themselves reflected in these books. -Gauri and Sadaf, co-founders, KitaabWorld
