Celebrating July 4th with Masala Baby.
Some of my favorite memories of The Fourth of July are those of when we first moved to Florida from London. My brother was just a baby and I was a toddler in a new place that was now to be called home. The day would start with grilling Indian barbecue favorites and as evening neared my parents would pack us up in the car and take us to Disney where I would sit on top of my dad’s shoulders and watch the fireworks go off. It was a time we looked forward to with excitement and wonder.
Celebrating July 4th hasn’t changed much since becoming a mother. We celebrate by getting together with friends and family, enjoying good food and fireworks. As a new tradition, each year we take our little one somewhere new to see fireworks. On the menu, we have my dad’s ‘almost famous’ tandoori chicken, paneer and vegetable skewers and a refreshing rose based drink called Rooh-Afza.
This July 4th we’ve partnered with Masala Baby, to share how we celebrate America’s Independence Day as an Indian family. Masala Baby is a baby and kids lifestyle brand that combines rich cultural influences of India with a modern, contemporary aesthetic that crosses borders effortlessly. What a beautiful company to partner with, that truly reflects what we are, global citizens.
As the world becomes smaller thanks to the ease of travel and technology, raising a culturally aware and accepting child becomes equally important. When my parents moved here from London in the late 80’s with the promise of building a better life for their kids, I remember my parents encouraging us to make friends with everyone, regardless of color or culture. I grew up with a Cuban and German best friend all throughout elementary school. I want to encourage the same mindset for my little one.
America is a melting pot of people from all over the world. Culture and values are embedded in the everyday. From doing morning prayers to participating in cultural celebrations, it’s important to us as a family to celebrate our roots on an everyday basis. My daughter will always be American by birth and culturally Indian. Masala Baby bridges the gap by being a socially conscious company that celebrates women artisans to bring together the East and West. They’ve found a way to wear a piece of India in the everyday.

So good to find a similar thinker. I have raised my kids in USA and passed on our values just like your parents. They seem to have done a good job.
Thank you Rita <3
